What is this Blog all about?

Welcome to our class blog!  I am Jennifer Corkum, your child's Grade four teacher.  I am continually trying to become more technologically savvy, and have had luck with a Class Blog in the past.  This year I am trying something new....Twitter! As I am new to Twitter, this blog will be used in conjunction with our class Twitter account.

I find as a teacher (and a parent myself) kids often can't remember anything from the day that they've just had, without prompts. My goal is to help you get conversations started with your son or daughter, by sending out daily 'tweets' about what questions you can ask the, about what they learned at school. For example, one tweet could be, 'Ask your son or daughter what the difference between an herbivore and a carnivore is.' This will hopefully jog their memories and get them talking about what we have been learning in Science class, or could also be a catalyst to help you sharing information you know on a given topic.

This blog will be used to show more detailed information on things like field trips, special events and projects at school. I will write a Tweet on our Twitter account when I have posted new information on this account, or I encourage you to save this in your Favourite bar and check back periodically. I am going to be teaching the children how to access our blog and twitter accounts, and hopefully they will eventually help me write both.

I understand that Twitter, Blogs and technology in general can be overwhelming.  Our School Board is encouraging the use of technology in many areas and I am trying to embrace these changes. These two accounts will not have comments available, as a way for me to limit the content and control what gets posted.

Hopefully this will help you get the conversation ball rolling!
